English Grammar for Beginners

English grammar is the set of rules that explain how words are used in the English language. It helps you build correct and meaningful sentences when speaking or writing. For beginners, here are the most important parts to understand:

  1. Parts of Speech: These are the basic types of words in English:

    • Nouns (people, places, things): cat, book, London

    • Verbs (actions or states): run, eat, is

    • Adjectives (describe nouns): big, red, happy

    • Adverbs (describe verbs or adjectives): quickly, very

    • Pronouns (replace nouns): he, she, it, they

    • Prepositions (show direction, place, or time): in, on, at

    • Conjunctions (join words or sentences): and, but, because

    • Interjections (show emotion): wow! oh!

  2. Sentence Structure:

    • A basic sentence has a subject (who or what the sentence is about) and a verb (what the subject does).

    • Example: “She runs.”

  3. Tenses:

    • Tenses show the time of action (past, present, future).

    • Example: I eat (present), I ate (past), I will eat (future).

  4. Articles:

    • Use “a,” “an,” or “the” before nouns.

    • Example: a dog, an apple, the sun

  5. Plurals:

    • Add -s or -es to make most nouns plural.

    • Example: cat → cats, box → boxes

Learning grammar helps you understand English better and speak more clearly. Start with simple sentences and practice often!
